The colors of metal – When heating becomes a palette

Published by Philippe BUIL on

In my workshop, I let the flame paint on the metal. Under the effect of heat, the gray surface of the sculpture awakens and reveals an unexpected palette: pinks, oranges, golds, purples, then deep blues.
Each color is born from fire — each shade tells an emotion.

The magic of heating: the alchemy of fire and metal

On this abstract sculpture, the torch becomes a brush of light.
By caressing the metal lace, I seek the perfect balance between control and chance.
The colors appear, almost like magic: pink for the barely heated areas, orange and gold for the intermediate shades, then purples and blues as the temperature rises.
Some parts remain gray, like a breath of raw steel in the middle of the color — a contrast I particularly like.

A unique work, marked by fire

Each heating is an adventure: the heat, the duration, the texture of the metal, all influence the result.
It is a meeting between matter and light, a living dialogue.
No sculpture will ever reproduce exactly the same range of colors — that is what makes it so unique.

👉 The sculpture you see in this video will be put up for sale soon.
