This steel lace elephant sculpture explores the quiet power of this mythical animal through the lightness of the metal.
With this elephant, I wanted to capture the majestic presence of the elephant while revealing the apparent fragility of the material.
This sculpture is made with steel lace, a technique that involves working the metal until it looks like a living, almost organic material. The irregular textures, cavities, and reliefs create a vibrant surface that captures light and changes the perception of the sculpture depending on the viewing angle.
The elephant has inspired me for a long time. It embodies memory, wisdom, and quiet strength. In this work, I sought to express this gentle power: an imposing mass but pierced by emptiness, light, and space.
Some parts of the sculpture are bronze patinated, adding warm tones that interact with the raw steel. This contrast emphasizes the volumes and enhances the feeling of living material.
Each sculpture is entirely handmade, making each piece unique. The metal lace gives the impression that the animal formed slowly, as if the metal naturally grew into this shape.
