With this bronze male back sculpture, I wanted to reveal the power of the human body while allowing a more ambiguous and androgynous dimension to emerge.
An Olympian back, between strength and ambiguity
In Kouros Truth in Action, the body appears through a powerful back inspired by ancient Greek statues. The term Kouros refers to those idealized young athletes of Greek sculpture, symbols of harmony and balance.
But here, the form retains a deliberately ambiguous dimension. The back has the muscular power of an Olympian male body, while maintaining soft lines that introduce an almost androgynous presence.
Bronze lace: the metal’s skin
The sculpture is made of bronze lace, created using a dripping technique that involves melting bronze drop by drop to form an openwork metal structure. This method gives the metal an almost organic texture.
Light passes through this metal lace and reveals the volumes of the back. The bronze outlines the body's lines with great material economy, transforming the sculpture into a presence that is both solid and airy.
