With this metal female bust sculpture, I wanted to create a silhouette that seems to be born from a ribbon of material unfolding around the body.
A metal ribbon to shape the silhouette
In Belisama The ribbon woman, the female bust appears wrapped by a metallic ribbon. The sculpture is built through a succession of lines that turn around the body and gradually outline the silhouette.
This ribbon gives the sculpture a unique dynamic. The body is not enclosed in a solid mass: it appears through a movement of material that seems to float around it, like a metallic fabric.
Steel and bronze lace
The sculpture is made of steel and bronze lace, obtained by melting the metal drop by drop using a dripping technique. This method creates an openwork metal network that allows light to pass through the sculpture.
The metal lace reveals the lines of the female body while playing with transparency. The steel and bronze areas create a subtle contrast between the strength of the metal and the softness of the bust's curves.
