Rhinoceros Flame: The Incandescent Strength and the Softness of Raw Nature
I wanted to represent the duality of this savanna giant. This sculpture does not merely freeze the features of a powerful animal; it captures its inner flame. The rhinoceros's head seems to emerge from a base of molten metal, like an emanation from the earth itself. It is a tribute to raw strength, but also to the vulnerability of a majestic species, treated here with the delicacy of airy lace.
Contrast is at the heart of this work: the steel outlines the power of the forms and the iconic horn, while the bronze splashes bring an incandescent warmth, evoking a dancing flame. The dripping technique makes the animal’s skin almost alive, rough to the touch but visually light thanks to the play of transparency. This is a piece from the Intimate range that celebrates the "raw softness" of nature, where power meets poetry.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
What does the "flame" symbolize in this rhinoceros sculpture? The flame represents the vital energy and wild spirit of the animal. It serves as a link between earth and sky, showing that even a terrestrial giant has a spiritual dimension and a lightness that only metal lace can reveal.
How is "softness" suggested on such a massive animal? The softness comes from transparency. By replacing the solid mass of the rhinoceros with an openwork mesh, I transform raw strength into an ethereal presence. Light passes through the animal’s head, softening its features and making it almost vaporous.
What metal finishes are used? The work combines steel for structural strength and bronze for its golden and coppery tones. Bronze is especially present on the base and reliefs to enhance the effect of warmth and fire that animates the sculpture.
Is this a unique piece? Yes, absolutely. Each "Rhinoceros Flame" is hand-sculpted by fusing drops of metal. It is impossible to reproduce the same lace pattern or the same flame movement twice, making piece 31-23 an exclusive, signed collector’s work.
How should this piece be displayed to enhance its reflections? To make the "flame" come alive, the ideal is to place the sculpture under a spotlight or near a natural light source. The bronze reflections will animate, and the steel mesh will cast complex shadows that extend the sculpture’s movement onto your walls.
