"With this metal lace sculpture, I wanted to capture the wandering soul of gypsy music: a violin that does not just play notes, but leaves behind a trace of freedom, a trail of metal and wind."
The Traveling Instrument: An Ode to Wandering
In The Trail of the Violin, the object becomes the narrator of an epic. Inspired by the gypsy aesthetic and the spirit of traveling performers, this sculpture embodies the life of travel, where music is the only luggage needed. The silhouette of the violin is crafted to suggest the constant vibration of the strings and the energy of the campfire.
Unlike a classical instrument fixed in its case, this violin seems to have lived. Its metal lace structure evokes the fragility of the musical moment and, paradoxically, the strength of a culture that spans ages without ever taking root. It is a tribute to those who turn wind and road into heartbreaking melodies.
Metal Lace: Sculpting Resonance
The drip fusion technique here serves visual acoustics. By working steel and bronze into an open mesh, I sought to materialize the instrument’s resonance. The empty space inside the soundbox is no longer an absence, but the place where sound is born and escapes.
The bronze highlights add a warm copper tone, reminiscent of the varnished wood of old violins aged by time and musicians’ hands. Light passes through the work as if following the bow’s movement, creating a play of cast shadows that extends the music onto your walls. It is no longer an inert object; it is a vibration frozen in metal.

Learn More About the Sculpture “The Trail of the Violin”
What is the symbolism of this violin sculpture? It symbolizes freedom, travel, and the gypsy spirit. The title "The Trail" evokes the emotional imprint that music leaves behind, an invisible but tangible presence.
Why use metal lace for an instrument? Metal lace (steel and bronze) allows showing the immateriality of sound. By making the violin transparent and openwork, it suggests that the instrument is made as much of music as of material.
What materials make up “The Trail of the Violin”? The sculpture is made from steel for its nervous structure and bronze for its warm and precious reflections. This metal blend creates a unique patina that evokes the authenticity of old instruments.
How is the sculpture mounted or displayed? This piece can be placed on a base or integrated into a specific display. Its transparency allows it to adapt to any interior, capturing light to reveal its complex details.
