Masculine Symbol 19-25: The Duality of Mars, Between Strength and Serenity
With this work, I wanted to restore the original depth of the masculine symbol. This sculpture embodies Mars, a figure often reduced to war, but who in Antiquity was just as much the protector of the city and the guarantor of peace. The shield and spear are not only signs of conquest but of directed energy, a strength that knows how to assert itself while maintaining balance.
The marriage of steel and bronze, worked in dripping (drop-by-drop fusion), highlights this dual nature. Steel provides the martial structure, solid and unchanging, while bronze warms the piece with its solar reflections. This sculpture is part of the Intimate range that celebrates uprightness and protection, offering a powerful and stabilizing presence in your interior.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Why refer to Mars as the god of peace for this symbol? In mythology, Mars is not only about combat; he is the one who sets boundaries and protects the home. This sculpture explores this duality: the arrow indicates direction and will (the warrior), while the circle represents unity and completeness (the guardian of peace). It is the symbol of a channeled masculine strength.
How does metal lace transform this traditional symbol? Usually, the sign of Mars is represented as solid and rigid. By using steel and bronze lace, I bring it vulnerability and transparency. This shows that true masculine strength is not monolithic but made of a complex mesh of resilience and openness.
What are the technical details of the steel and bronze on this piece? The gray steel forms the body of the symbol, evoking armor and iron. Bronze is fused on the tip of the arrow and the curves of the circle to add flashes of light. These bronze projections give this sculpture a precious, almost antique look, like a recovered artifact.
Is this a unique work? Absolutely. Each fusion gesture is dictated by the moment. Made freehand, without any mold, the 19-25 piece has its own lace design and its own distribution of metals. It is an original creation signed Philippe Buil, delivered with its certificate of authenticity.
How to display this symbol to emphasize its power? Direct lighting from above will accentuate the arrow’s momentum and make the bronze reflections vibrate. Placed in an office or living room, this sculpture becomes a visual anchor, casting graphic shadows that reinforce its protective character.
