Trait de Lumière 83-21: Celestial Irrigation at the Heart of the Earth
With "Trait de Lumière 83-21," I explored the symbolism of the life cycle through an abstract form evoking an earthly shell. This organic structure, forged from raw steel lace, seems to receive energy flows coming from above. I imagined these metal strokes as a beneficial rain or sun rays falling to irrigate the soil. The material is not only touched; it is penetrated by these lines of light that seep into the gaps of the lace to nourish the earth and give birth to life.
The dripping technique creates a striking contrast between the protective base, resembling a fossil or terrestrial relief, and the dynamic verticality of the light strokes. The void within the sculpture plays an essential role: it represents the space where light circulates and where life takes root. This is a piece from the Intimate range that invites meditation on our connection to natural elements, a work that seems to capture the precise moment when sky and earth become one to generate life.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
What does the shape of this abstract sculpture represent? It evokes an "earthly shell," an organic receptacle form representing the nurturing earth. The vertical lines symbolize external elements (rain, sun, light) that irrigate and fertilize it.
How are the "strokes of light" made? They are sculpted by fusing drops of steel at high temperature. Each stroke is manually stretched to create a sense of movement and fall, like an energy flow frozen in metal.
Is this a unique work? Yes, absolutely. The dripping creation process makes each lace structure and each "light" trajectory completely unpredictable and impossible to reproduce. It is an exclusive collector’s piece signed Philippe Buil.
What materials are used? This sculpture is made entirely of steel. The work on textures and metal reflections distinguishes the denser earthly base from the lighter, shimmering strokes of light.
How to maintain this abstract sculpture? The steel is protected by a high-quality professional varnish. Regular dusting with a soft-bristle brush is enough to maintain the transparency of the lace and the shine of the metal lines.
